Why instruct James Kessler?

I spend most of my time giving independent specialist advice in private client matters, especially areas covered in my book "Taxation of Non-residents & Foreign Domiciliaries". If you want such advice, you should instruct a barrister but who and how? From time to time I need to choose one myself. I go first by personal knowledge; second by personal recommendation; in the absence of that, by the quality of their publications, lectures, CV and (so far as ascertainable) reputation; and lastly, by comments in published directories. In my case I have received the Shindler Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession (STEP Private Client Awards, 2011) and am in Band 1 in Chambers Directory under the heading Private Client Tax with a reference to "acumen and remarkable thoroughness of thought," and in Tier 1 of Legal 500 as "Technically second to none and he gives clear advice, on which the client can rely".

How to instruct James Kessler?

Prepare a summary of the facts and questions to be considered, and any relevant supporting documentation. Advice may be given by written opinion, in conference or over the telephone; advice given orally will be confirmed by an opinion or settled note of conference.

Who can instruct James Kessler?

Instructions can be given by solicitors, accountants, members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and any other UK and overseas professionals.

I can also take instructions directly from the public where appropriate. It may be sensible for a layman to involve his advisers at this stage, since if my advice involves taking any particular steps, it will be the accountant or solicitor who puts them into action, and who in due course completes tax returns, etc. For this purpose I will give recommendations if desired.

Fees

Instructing a KC is not cheap, but I think it is extremely good value. If a matter is not suitable, for reasons of cost or any other reasons, I will give recommendations.

The next step

To discuss availability or obtain a fee quote, contact James Kessler's clerk or if appropriate James Kessler directly.
